An Iowa City man will serve prison time for gun charges,
the United States Attorney's Office said Tuesday.
Beau Jo Boorman, 23, was sentenced to 18 months. He was
charged Jan. 15 and pled guilty in May, said Al Overbaugh,
spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Des Moines.
Boorman was charged with possession of a firearm as a
drug user. He was also ordered to serve a two-year term
of supervised release following his prison term and fined.
A search warrant was executed Sept. 5 on Boorman's residence,
which he shared with co-defendant Matthew Wood of North
Liberty. Officers seized four firearms, including a semi-automatic
rifle and marijuana.
Wood pled guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
The case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney's
Office in the southern district of Iowa as part of the
Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives,
the Coralville Police Department and Johnson County Attorney's
Office conducted the investigation.
